AUGUST 9, 1965 – APRIL 3, 2009

BRAZIL

Almir  Alves was a real fighter who could make real any of his dreams. He earned a PHD in Mathematics and was working on his Postdoctorate Degree when his life was tragically cut short.

Almir will be remembered as “The Math Warrior” by everyone who loved him.

Layla Khalil a remarkable individual, a devoted mother and a supportive wife made the difficult easy and created happiness out of sadness with her optimistic attitude and warm smile.

She graduated with a degree in library information science in 1976 and worked in the ministry of education in IRAQ as a librarian for more than fifteen years.

MARC HENRY BERNARD

MAY 24, 1964 – APRIL 3, 2009

HAITI

He was in search of a better life for himself and his family.

Marc Henry Bernard was caring energetic and dedicated father. He was helpful to everyone.

MARIE SONIA BERNARD

FEBRUARY  1, 1964 – APRIL 3, 2009

HAITI

Sonia was very involved in the church group Kiro-Christ of Croix-Des-Mission (Haiti).

Sonia was a very strong , caring woman who had a contagious smile. She was patient and had a sense of humor. 

Sonia will be remember as a caring wife. Her faith was priceless.

MAO HONG XUI

August 2, 1973 – April 3, 2009

Mao Hong Xiu was born to Zhi Yi Mao and Simei Mo in Qiaotou, a small village outside of the city of Guilin in Guangxi Province. Southern China in a wooden home built by her grandfather in 1907. There was no glass in the windows or any indoor plumbing. 

From an early age, she developed a desire to travel the world and see foreign lands. Encouraged by a poster with photos of cities around the world, Hung in their simple home by her elder brother Hong Sun

MARIA "Mima" ZOBNIW

1948-2009

UKRAINE

Maria who died a victim of the tragic Binghamton massacre. On Friday, Maria was not scheduled to be at the American Civic Association where she worked as an immigration counselor. Friday was Maria’s day off. She planned to bake goods for her parish’s Ukrainian Ester Bazaar and to prepare for a trip to visit her daughter.

That morning, after assisting a family with a translation, Maria was called again to come to the ACA. Maria not thinking twice about helping someone in need, went to the ACA never to return.

Roberta King was a substitute teacher on that faithful day.

She loved teaching and learning. She made the world a better place  by taking the time to listen to and care about others. 

She will endure through all those she touched.

That’s what I believe as well you were a great mother.  A great person who will forever live inside of me.
